Role of Grandparents in a child's life...

Every parent thinks about becoming a grandparent one day. Even with the changing trends in lifestyle, the role of grandparents, both paternal and maternal, remains equal and pretty crucial in a child's life. I consider myself unlucky as I lost mine, but still feel blessed because of my maternal gran, who is undoubtedly an impeccable woman. But, my dear Samyu is lucky as she is gifted to enjoy the affection of her grandparents.

Grandparents often hold a dynamic role in the family and of course in the life of a child. They play with them, protect them, share fun, enlighten their minds, teach them the ethics and values with wisdom than they did as parents and love them to the bits. Though not the direct parents, they are the trusted adults in the family. They need not willingly be a part of the child care but remain imperative in the process of child's development into a complete individual.

And on the eve of grandparents day, let me take a moment to pen down their unequalled role in the life of their grandchildren and, of course the one as I wish to see in my child's life.
  • Love, love & love: "Grandparents" the word itself can be used as a synonym for the unconditional love. and they shower it in loads over their grandchildren. The feeling of warmth they give is matchless and can never be replaced. Thus, they fill in the most important element in a child's life.
  • The Connecting links: They remain as the connection to the family histories. Their ancestral role explains the continuity of life and helps the child in understanding the relations, s/he is bound to in a family.
  • The Ultimate Cheerleaders: Well, parents do encourage their children, but grandparents do it exceptionally!!! They cheer them in every step they climb. They constantly try and chisel their imagination in such a way that they can attain their intellectual growth. With a constant boost received by the child, they can realise their self-worth, which is pretty essential for them becoming the fittest.
  • Store housesThey are the store houses of wisdom and knowledge. They can acquaint a child to several instances in life with the short stories from noble books and epics. These can help the child learn the human values and get themselves familiar with the ethics they should know in order to lead a human life.
  • "Experience" is the word for their age:  It is clearly understood that they age gracefully, and in this process they would have experienced several ups and downs. They are pretty aware of diverse unexpected situations and can offer a related solution. It is essential for a parent to understand that every word they speak in is with complete understanding towards a situation and out of their experience.

P.S: Even though the child shares an immense rapport with their grandparents, one should understand that parents remain to be crucial for the sole existence of the child and so holds the utmost responsibility of the child. Therefore, certain choices and decisions concerned with the child should be left to the parent. (Simply, do remember that you craved for the same when you are a parent).
